Communications & Development Manager

Dorian Nakamichi

“Helping Hands Hawai‘i provides me with an opportunity to do good work with good people for the betterment of our community. By joining together, we can reach those who need the most help and give everyone the chance to thrive in our island home.”

Dorian serves as Communications & Development Manager and is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive fund development and communications strategy to support the agency’s mission. Her duties include coordinating annual giving efforts, grant proposal writing, and assisting with fundraising events. She also manages the agency’s website and social media presence and collaborates with the programs to promote their initiatives in the community.

Dorian is a graduate of Mililani High School and the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where she received bachelor’s degrees in English and Journalism-Public Relations. She authored a children’s book that received an honorable mention award from the Hawaii Book Publishers Association at the 2012 Ka Palapala Pookela Awards.

Fun fact: Dorian has been a kangaroo and wallaby “mum” to injured and orphaned joeys in Australia and happily participated in their release back into the wild.
