Helping Hands Hawai‘i’s (HHH) Representative Payee (RP) Program manages Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Retirement, Survivors and Disability Insurance (RSDI) benefits for people experiencing long-term illnesses or other impairments. Appointed by the Social Security Administration (SSA), RP ensures client funds cover basic needs like housing, food, and medical care.
Our dedicated team works with our clients and their support systems to develop a budget within their monthly Social Security income, assist in making better financial decisions, and develop money management skills leading to stabilization. Our services and support give our clients an opportunity to regain their financial independence and allow them to focus on improving their well-being. Our RP team works closely with the SSA office to navigate complexities with client payments and provides annual audit reports to minimize any disruptions.

The Representative Payee Program receives funding from Ohana Health Plan Community Care Services (CCS). To be referred as a client, contact Ohana’s CCS at (888) 846-4262.

The Community Clearinghouse charges a fee to pick up gently used furniture and household items from your home or business. The fee helps to cover Community Clearinghouse expenses including, but not limited to, auto insurance, vehicle registration fees, annual servicing, periodic maintenance, and gas. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate same-day service requests.
All donated household goods are distributed to individuals and families in need free of charge.

Family members, friends, legal guardians, lawyers, or organizations (like Helping Hands Hawai‘i) can be appointed.

If a client believes they can manage their own money, they must contact the SSA and request a review to demonstrate their competency.
The Representative Payee Program manages benefit payments for clients who receive SSI/RSDI. While working with clients and their support systems, we prioritize needs (rent/housing) and use their funds to make payments.

- Oversee our clients’ financial responsibilities. Prioritize paying for current needs: food, shelter, clothing, medical care, and personal items.
- Work with support systems and clients to develop an individualized budget to support monthly needs and financial goals, helping clients prioritize their needs over wants.
- Work with clients and vendors to address outstanding balances and develop a payment plan if necessary.
- Save clients’ remaining money for future needs.
- Provide annual reports and life changes (e.g., marriage, employment, address change) to the SSA to report on how benefits were used.
Yes, the client can request “discretionary spending money” for personal expenses, and the RP will disburse the request if funds are available.
No, HHH is only responsible for Social Security benefits.
