Rebuilding After the Storm

After fleeing from an unsafe home, a client was looking forward to a fresh start in public housing in Waialua. But shortly after moving in, the Kona Low storm flooded her unit, and she lost everything.

Despite this setback, she found a new place to begin again and came to our Community Clearinghouse (CCH) warehouse to select a few pieces of furniture. Our team delivered her furniture and surprised her with hygiene items, cleaning supplies, toiletries, towels, bedding, pillows, and a case of water.

When our team arrived, her home was completely bare, but it didn’t stay that way. Together, we helped turn an empty space into the start of a home, restoring comfort, dignity, and hope.

She wrote, “If I lived to be 200, I could never repay the kindness you guys have shown me. You have restored and mended a hole in my soul of wanting to give up. This is how much this meant to me. So from the bottom of my heart THANK YOU.” She added, “OMG, I JUST WENT THROUGH THE HYGIENE, AND YOU ARE THE BEST! I love everything in the box you put together. I don’t know what I did so well in my life that I came across you and the brother who helped me every step of the way, but THANK YOU, LORD!!!!!”

Moments like this are a reminder of what community support can do.

If you’d like to support efforts like this, you can make a donation or get involved as a volunteer to help more individuals and families rebuild.
